Female Fitting Contact Lenses

Here’s a step-by-step guide to safely putting in contact lenses:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, then dry with a lint-free towel.

  • Remove one lens from its case and place it on the tip of your index finger. Make sure it’s not inside out—the edges should curve upward like a bowl.

  • Hold your upper eyelid open with your opposite hand to prevent blinking.

  • Pull down your lower eyelid with the middle finger of your lens-holding hand.

  • Look straight ahead or up, and gently place the lens on the center of your eye.

  • Blink slowly or close your eyes briefly to help the lens settle into place.

  • Repeat the process with the other eye, and always clean and store your lenses properly afterward.

Establishing a Good Contact Lens Fit at Paradise Valley Eye Care

It starts with a thorough eye exam to ensure the most up-to-date prescription and rule out any pre-existing conditions that could interfere with contact lens wear.

Fitting lenses to your lifestyle
We will determine the best fitting lens based on your lifestyle needs and the shape and health of your eyes. In most cases, you’ll have the opportunity to try lenses on the same day as your exam. You may even go home with a few samples before making a final decision.

Follow up fittings
Our Phoenix team will follow up after the initial fitting and then make any necessary changes in fit or materials to get you the best possible result. We teach all our patients proper contact lens care and also possible consequences if proper care is not taken. Then we continue with long-term follow-up to monitor the condition of the lenses and to ensure that proper hygiene is being maintained.

Contact Lens FAQs

How long do trial contacts last?

Trial contacts are meant for short term use while you and your doctor decide on the best fit. Most trials last one to two weeks, depending on the lens type and your wearing habits. Your doctor will give you clear instructions on how long to wear them each day and when to check back for a follow up to confirm comfort and vision.

How do I start wearing contacts?

Starting with contacts begins with a contact lens exam and fitting. Your doctor will check your prescription, measure your eyes, and choose a lens that matches your vision needs and lifestyle. You will learn how to insert and remove the lenses, how to keep them clean, and how long to wear them each day. With practice and good habits, most people adjust quickly and comfortably.

What do I do if my eyes are sore after wearing contacts?

If your eyes feel sore, remove your lenses right away and give your eyes a break. Soreness can come from dryness, overwearing lenses, or a poor fit. Do not put the lenses back in until your eyes feel normal. Use artificial tears if recommended by your doctor and contact the office if discomfort continues. Persistent soreness often means your lenses or wearing schedule need an adjustment.

Our Contact Lens Services:

  • Thumbnail contact exam
A routine exam won’t provide some of the measurements and testing that are required to determine if your eyes are suitable for contact lens wear, and to generate your contact lens Rx.
  • Woman Contact Lens
Disposable contact lenses are generally considered to be far superior in comfort and wearability than hard and rigid lenses.
  • Portrait Of Happy Mature Man With White Stylish Short Beard Look
Fortunately for those who don’t like the look, feel or inconvenience of reading glasses, there is another option. Bifocal and multifocal lenses are also available in contact lenses in both soft and rigid varieties.
  • Thumbnail contacts 3
These rigid lenses aren’t as popular or well-known as soft lenses, but they offer the advantages of durability, crisp vision and high oxygen permeability.
  • Thumbnail contacts astig
“I can’t wear soft contacts; I have astigmatism.” This once-true statement is now simply a myth.
  • Thumbnail contacts 4
Challenges such as astigmatism, presbyopia, keratoconus and dry eyes needn’t be a barrier to contact lens wear, but they do require more time and patience.
